Food Wars: Shougeki no Soma Review- Volume One

Bon Apetit! Food Wars (Shokugeki no Soma) is a Japanese cooking manga written by Yūto Tsukuda (Shonen Shikku) and illustrated by Shun Saeki. Food Wars is North American licensed by Viz Media.

STORY: Food Wars tells the story an aspiring chief that wants to follow in his father footsteps in running the family business a special-of-the-day shop and surpass his father with his culinary skills. Soma Yukihira is forced to go to an elite culinary school by his father, when his father gets a job overseas.

At first, Yukihira refused to go to a school that he found useless to him, but his father told him if you don’t go to the culinary school you’ll never surpass me and inherit the restaurant that you’re so fond of. So in the end he decides to go. Before he is able to attend the culinary school, he to needed to pass an entrance exam. Little does Soma know that Erina Nakiri (aka God Tongue) was the exam prompter. As the nickname entails she immediately looks down on everyone due to her extremely refined palate.

REVIEW: In my honest opinion, this manga has great images of food, and I got hungry every single time I read this manga. But it’s a really great read if your into being "wow"ed every step of the way. It has a great pool characters that add diversity into an already interesting story, the cooking scenes are spectacular with all the vivid illustrations. Not to mention something that this manga has brought to the table, which are very creatively done foodgasims every single time that good food is eaten in this manga.

But really there isn’t that much that I can say about this manga it has to be read to understand it completely, so it’s worth the read and you won’t be disappointed by how good you find the story, characters, and the food. Oh one last thing, they have some of the recipes of the food they cook in this manga and you can make it if you want, and it’s worth it.
